Plainville, MA — February 4th — The Metacomet Emergency Communications Center called the Plainville Fire Department, located at 194 South St., to a report of a downed and unsteady horse. A five-year-old horse that had given birth earlier in the night was discovered by the teams upon arrival. The horse was suffering from hind leg paralysis, a disease that can occasionally occur after birth, according to the owner and an on-scene veterinarian.
The Norfolk County Technical Rescue Team was called in for extra staffing and equipment, and an animal control officer arrived. The horse was able to stand by itself after about half an hour. Firefighters stayed on the scene for approximately forty-five minutes to offer assistance and make sure the situation remained stable after the technical rescue response was canceled.
