Medway, MA — February 4th — An electric vehicle was involved in a car collision that was attended to by the Medway Fire Department, which is based at 44 Milford Street. In order to properly disable the vehicle and lessen potential threats at the scene, workers used an Emergency Plug during the event.

The Emergency Plug notifies the car's onboard system that it is plugged in by mimicking a charging connection. Responders can safely provide patient care and stabilize the scene because this stops the vehicle from being driven or moved. Tools like the Emergency Plug help reduce threats to EMS, fire, and police personnel in the event of an electric vehicle incident, which poses special issues for emergency services. As electric vehicles become more prevalent on local roads, the response reflects ongoing training and readiness.
