Franklin, MA — February 1st — By adding the capability to deliver intravenous antibiotics in the field to a subset of patients with suspected sepsis, the Franklin Fire Department has increased the scope of its advanced life support services. When patients fulfill specific clinical requirements and are working under the direction of the department's medical director, the program permits paramedics to start treatment before the patient arrives at the hospital.

Early treatment is essential for sepsis, a dangerous and time-sensitive medical illness. Data from hospitals and EMS across the country continue to demonstrate that early interventions and quicker recognition can enhance patient outcomes and lower complications. Crews from the Franklin Fire Department can reduce care delays and enhance collaboration with receiving hospitals by starting IV antibiotics earlier. Continuous training, medical supervision, and a dedication to providing top-notch prehospital medicine are all reflected in the update.
