On January 29, the Port Washington Fire Department responded to a reported car fire in front of 116 Shore Road after clearing an automated fire alarm in Sands Point. While units were in route, dispatch reported that the vehicle was approaching a building, prompting Nassau County Police to request an upgrade to a General Alarm.
Chief LoRe arrived and confirmed that there was a working car fire. Under the supervision of Chief Saccoccia, personnel launched a concerted attack and doused the fire, preventing it from spreading to the nearby structure. During operations, firefighters investigated a water flow alarm at Soundview Marketplace, which was thought to be caused by a temporary pressure reduction from hydrant use. A separate Signal 9 was handled without the need of mutual aid.
