Dover Crews Handle Ice Rescue Involving Dog

Dover, MA — January 17th — A dog slipped through thin ice on a nearby river, prompting the Dover Firefighters Association to go to the scene. The rescue was successfully completed by firefighters who had the right tools and training when they arrived.
The dog's owners made the proper choice, according to fire officials, by calling 911 soon away and avoiding the ice. Without the proper equipment or training, entering ice conditions can quickly put more people in danger. Particularly during times of temperature fluctuations, ice conditions can change quickly, and even seemingly solid ice may not be safe. During the winter, the Dover Firefighters Association encouraged locals to keep their pets on leashes close to ponds, lakes, and wetlands.
