Overnight blaze destroys Palisades Park building in single digit tempts.

A four-alarm fire in Palisades Park destroyed a restaurant and an apartment, in one of several back-to-back blazes on the morning of February 8th. The fire dept was dispatched at 2:12 a.m. for a fire alarm at 339 Broad ave. As first due firefighters investigated, they discovered that a broke out in the rear of the building. The building housed the Totowah Restaurant and Ahjae Gookbap at ground floor and an apartment above running the length of the 2½-story brick building. The fire rapidly extended to the second floor and cockloft of the building. During the early stages of the fire and entire operation firefighters were faced with several frozen hydrants as temperatures approached zero, responders said. Fire broke through the roof and master streams from Palisades Park ladder 1, Fort Lee Ladder 1 went into operation in front of the building as Englewood Truck 1 in the rear went into operation. Anthony's Pharmacy which was and exposure to the Delta side suffered minor damage. Dpw salt trucks were called to the scene to salt the icy fireground.


The Bergen County Prosecutor's Arson Investigations Unit responded to determine the cause. The county sheriff's BCI unit. The Countywide Emergency Response Team provided a warming tent and rehab for firefighters and a warming bus from Bergen County and NJ Transit brought in. No injuries to any firefighters were reported.


The Palisades Park blaze was one of several fires in Bergen County the others took place in Oradell, Cliffside Park, Lodi, Leonia and Wallington in less than 24 hours. Mutual aid from Leonia, Cliffside Park, Fairview, Englewood, Cliffside Park, Fort Lee Edgewater, Englewood Cliffs and Bogota. Other out of town assistance came from Teaneck, Hackensack, Little Ferry and Tenafly to stand by at the firehouse.
