January 29, 2026 — As extreme winter weather continues across the region, the Bulloch County Fire Department is reminding residents to prioritize fire safety while staying warm at home. Officials emphasized that home fires occur more frequently during winter months, often due to unsafe heating practices. Residents are encouraged to use heating equipment properly, keep flammable items at least three feet away from heat sources, ensure carbon monoxide alarms are installed and functioning, and avoid overloading electrical outlets. Fire officials also advised using generators only outdoors and having chimneys and vents inspected regularly. The department stressed that taking simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of winter-related fires and help keep families safe during periods of prolonged cold.
