Multi-Agency Response Supports Serious Injury Crash in Sturbridge

STURBRIDGE, MA - On Thursday afternoon, January 15th, Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 arrived on the scene of an entrapped car collision near 530 Main Street. After Ambulance 2 was originally sent out and arrived to verify entrapment, more fire, rescue, and emergency medical services were assigned.
Rescue 1 used hydraulic rescue equipment to start the extrication process after responding with on-duty and callback firefighters. A medical helicopter was called to Harrington Memorial Hospital, and advanced life support treatment was given on the spot. Crews took the patient to the landing area when they were released, and Life Flight evacuated the critically injured patient to UMass Medical Center. While Sturbridge Police conducted their investigation, Rescue 1 stayed on the scene to mitigate the hazards.
