Sturbridge, MA — January 6th — On Route 49 at Putnam Road, Sturbridge Firefighters Local 170 responded to a car accident involving minor injuries. After arriving on the scene, Ambulance 1 and Engine 2 started traffic control, scene safety, and patient evaluation. Another ambulance was sought for a first-alarm assignment due to the necessity for more medical resources. There was no callback staff on hand to staff a second unit at the time of the occurrence. After receiving a call for mutual aid, Charlton Ambulance arrived on the spot.

While controlling traffic concerns, firefighters and emergency medical services coordinated care for the occupants involved. In order to guarantee ongoing emergency medical coverage during situations needing greater resources, mutual aid responses continue to be a normal procedure.
