Shrewsbury, MA — February 5th — As part of continuous winter preparation efforts, firefighters from the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts Fire Department completed yearly ice and cold water rescue training. In addition to reviewing equipment and reiterating safety protocols necessary for situations involving ice-covered rivers, crews rehearsed rescue operations. This kind of training is done annually to make sure firefighters are prepared to work safely in the winter.

Firefighters continued to remove snow and ice from fire hydrants throughout town in addition to their training. During winter storms, keeping hydrants accessible is a common but crucial activity that helps avoid delays during fire suppression operations. According to fire officials, teams may stay prepared for rescue and fire-related emergencies all winter long by combining seasonal training with hydrant maintenance.
