January 21, 2026 — The Winder Fire Department celebrated a series of significant accomplishments as it kicked off 2026, highlighting progress in operations, facilities, fundraising, and community engagement. The department officially placed a new rescue truck into service, strengthening emergency response capabilities and enhancing protection for the City of Winder. Station 1 also saw major improvements, including a full remodel and the installation of new bay doors. In addition to operational upgrades, the department was recognized for achieving the highest per-capita fundraising total for the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, underscoring its commitment to service beyond emergency response. Firefighter Cory West was honored with the Charlie Eberhart Award for his dedication and contributions, and the department proudly earned first place in the Jug Tavern Festival’s Bed Race. Department leadership reflected on the progress made since 2016 and set an ambitious tone for the year ahead, emphasizing continued service, community involvement, and teamwork—along with a lighthearted goal of aging as well as Fire Chief Matt Whiting has over the past decade.
