January 14, 2026 — The Alma–Bacon County Fire & EMS has issued a public warning urging residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution as heightened fire danger conditions persist across the area. Fire officials say a combination of dry weather, low humidity, and increased winds has significantly raised the risk of grass, brush, and wildland fires, which can ignite easily and spread rapidly under current conditions. The department is strongly discouraging outdoor burning of any kind, including debris piles and recreational fires, and is reminding the public to properly dispose of cigarettes, secure trailer chains to prevent sparks, and use extra care with outdoor equipment such as grills, welding tools, and lawn machinery. Residents are also urged to immediately report any signs of smoke or fire by calling 911. Fire officials noted that conditions will continue to be monitored closely, with updates provided as necessary, emphasizing that community awareness and cooperation play a critical role in preventing fires before they start.
