Douglas, MA — January 29th — In anticipation of the possibility of another winter storm, the Town of Douglas Fire Department spent January 29th removing snow and ice from fire hydrants. While remaining prepared for service requests, firefighters worked all around the municipality to enhance hydrant access. Water delivery operations during fires may be slowed by snow-covered hydrants, particularly in the winter.

Crews can join lines more rapidly and keep the fire flowing steadily if hydrants are kept clear and visible. During the winter, departments in Massachusetts encounter comparable difficulties and frequently depend on the assistance of both employees and the community. If it is safe to do so, residents are urged to empty the hydrant closest to their residence. In addition to supporting efficient emergency response should circumstances worsen, community support is crucial to winter readiness.
