January 8, 2026 — Kennebunk Fire Rescue partnered with the Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Police Departments to conduct an ALICE tabletop training scenario focused on preparing responders and community partners for active shooter or violent intruder incidents.

The session introduced participants to the ALICE framework—Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate—a proactive approach that emphasizes decision-making and adaptability rather than relying solely on traditional lockdown procedures. Through guided discussion and scenario-based planning, attendees reviewed how to rapidly share information, secure spaces, evacuate when possible, and coordinate with first responders during evolving emergencies.

Officials emphasized that ALICE training is designed to be trauma-informed and practical, empowering individuals to take an active role in their own safety while supporting coordinated law enforcement and fire-rescue response. The program is widely used in schools, workplaces, healthcare facilities, and public venues.

Kennebunk Fire Rescue noted that continued collaboration between fire, police, and community stakeholders is essential to improving preparedness and ensuring a unified response during high-risk incidents.
