Athol, MA — January 20 — Cold weather did not hinder training for Shift 2 at the Athol Fire Department, as workers executed a simulated water supply evolution on January 20th. The practice focused on establishing and sustaining water supply operations under cold conditions that firefighters may confront during genuine events. Crews can practice hydrant operations, hose deployment, pump functions, and equipment communication during water supply exercises.

Identifying problems like frozen equipment, poor traction, and decreased efficiency brought on by winter weather is another benefit of training in cold climates. Simulated evolutions offer a chance to improve collaboration and safe work procedures while increasing equipment knowledge. Regular hands-on training helps firefighters remain prepared to give effective fire protection throughout the year, regardless of weather or operating conditions.
