Members of Teaneck Firefighters FMBA Local 42 and Teaneck fire officers responded to a car collision with entrapment at Ridgefield Park earlier this month as part of a mutual aid effort. To liberate a trapped driver, Squad 23 worked with the Hackensack Fire Department Rescue 1 and the Ridgefield Park Fire Department. Guillermo Mollins, an off-duty firefighter with the Newburgh Fire Department, was the driver and was seriously hurt in the collision. Before he was sent for medical attention, firefighters removed him from the car using coordinated extrication tactics.
Mollins was discharged from Hackensack University Medical Center on January 19. In honor of his advancement, firefighters from Teaneck, Hackensack, Ridgefield Park, and Newburgh took part in a clap-out ceremony. Members of the fire service community have organized fundraising events to help with continuing medical costs while he recovers.
