The Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department issued a public safety alert on January 19th about the significance of having operational smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in residential buildings. As part of continuous efforts to reduce community danger, the message was distributed via the department's Fire Prevention Bureau. Early warning from smoke and carbon monoxide detectors allows residents to safely evacuate and enables emergency personnel to take prompt action. Carbon monoxide, a colorless and odorless gas produced by fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, and generators, continues to be a common hazard investigated by fire departments across New Jersey.
The New Jersey Fire Code's minimum criteria for detector placement and upkeep were also cited by the agency. Residents with queries concerning detector installation or fire safety were encouraged to contact the Wyckoff Fire Prevention Bureau at 201-891-7000, extension 2030.
