During the recent snowstorm, the Sparta Township Fire Department continued to respond to service requests throughout the township while being on standby at its firehouses. Firefighters responded to many incidents during the storm, including as a vehicle fire on Route 15 and a mutual assistance reaction to a commercial structure fire in Jefferson Township. Despite dangerous weather and poor road conditions, crews stayed on hand to guarantee continuous coverage. The fire department is encouraging people to remove at least three feet of snow from fire hydrants as they clean up after the storm. Having hydrants on hand helps speed up response times when seconds count and enable firemen to swiftly establish a water supply during crises.
