Broadway, NJ — January 27 — In the evening, Franklin Township Fire & EMS personnel carried out a hydrant clearing assignment in the township's Broadway and New Village neighbourhoods. Crews emptied nearly 50 fire hydrants in two hours while working between regular calls, guaranteeing access to water supplies throughout the winter.
Before the crew arrived, locals had already cleared a number of hydrants. According to officials, this support made it easier for teams to move quickly and concentrate on areas that were still affected by snow accumulation. Because snow and ice can cause hose connections and water flow to be delayed during structural fires, clear hydrants are still crucial for fighting fires. In order to facilitate safe and prompt emergency operations, the department advises people to maintain the hydrants next to their homes clear throughout the winter.
