TAFTVILLE, CT - At 5:12 P.M. on Saturday, January 27th, the Taftville Fire Department with Norwich’s Engine 3, Truck 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to 74 Ox Hill Road for a house fire. Dispatch was taking multiple calls and transmitted the working fire which added Yantic and the Mohegan Tribal FAST.
Car 2 arrived at 5:16 P.M. reporting fire showing from the second-floor of a one-and-a-half-story, wood-frame residential house. Engine 3 arrived at 5:18 P.M. and stretched a one-and-three-quarter-inch hose line through the front door, up the stairs and to the right where they found two rooms burning.
Engine 3's driver was able to get his own hydrant while Engine 21 laid in from a different hydrant to establish a secondary water supply. Engine 21 then stretched a backup line to the second-floor. Truck 1 threw two ground ladders and went to the roof with a Yantic firefighter to perform vertical ventilation.
Engine 22 stretched another line from Engine 21 and took it to the roof in the rear. Engine 31 then stretched a third line from Engine 21. Tower 25 did overhaul and Rescue 3 filled air cylinders with their cascade. The Occum Fire Department covered Taftville and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
