Tar Kettle Fire with Tank Impingement

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

A first alarm assignment was dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire at a construction site, located at 1400 University Drive in Coral Springs. While in the area, units reported a heavy column of black smoke, which could be seen for several miles. Upon arrival, Engine Company 64 found heavy fire from the north side of a Publix Store under construction. Further investigation found a well-involved tar kettle fire with four large (120 gallon) propane cylinders being impinged by flames. The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes. The Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue HazMat Team responded to burn off the cylinders due to their instability. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
