The Stewartsville Volunteer Fire Company is reminding locals of several public safety regulations linked to snow removal operations on January 24 in response to a local disaster proclamation pertaining to winter weather conditions. In order for municipal workers to plow and treat roads in a safe and efficient manner, the proclamation mandates that all vehicles be removed from public streets. Additionally, neighbors are being asked to help by clearing snow and ice from fire hydrants that are close to their homes. Keeping hydrants accessible is critical to maintaining an uninterrupted water supply during fires and other emergencies, particularly during winter storms. Blocked hydrants can impede emergency response and prolong fire suppression efforts, according to fire service groups at the municipal and state levels. When weather emergencies are proclaimed, community participation ensures that firemen can work without additional difficulties.
