Haddonfield, NJ — Jan. 23 — A winter safety alert from Haddon Fire Company No. 1 advised locals to avoid Hopkins Pond and any other frozen bodies of water. Ice can become weaker without obvious symptoms due to weather variations, flowing water, and uneven freezing. During the winter, fire services in the area frequently respond to ice-related emergencies, which frequently involve abrupt ice failure.
Residents were urged by officials to keep kids and pets away from the ice and to refrain from playing, walking, or skating on frozen lakes and ponds. The department urged people to keep cautious while enjoying the winter season and stressed that avoiding frozen rivers is the best approach to prevent winter rescue occurrences.
