Newport, NJ — January 18 — The Downe Township Fire/Rescue and Dive Team came to Newport in response to a call for emergency medical assistance. Utility 39 and QRV 39 were dispatched to support EMS workers on the spot. Firefighters provided additional staff and assisted with scene management as EMS workers evaluated and treated the patient. The units remained on site to help with access requirements, patient mobility, and maintaining the safety of responders' workstations.

During EMS situations, fire-rescue units are often called upon to support medical operations and improve scene safety. These coordinated responses allow EMS staff to focus on patient care while other resources take care of support duties. Both units were freed by command and put back into duty when EMS operations were finished and the situation was calmed.
