WHITMAN, MASSACHUSETTS (PLYMOUTH COUNTY) - Around 1830 hours on the evening of Thursday, January 26, 2023 the Whitman Fire Department responded to a reported pedestrian accident in the area of 6 Washington Street. Engine-243, Ambulance-247, and Car-3 responded. Companies arrived to find a pedestrian struck down in the roadway. Command requested the availability of Boston MedFlight, Car-5 to respond to the scene from headquarters, and a box be struck for manpower.

The victim of the accident was struck twice by passing motor vehicles in both lanes of travel as they were attempting to back a box truck out of a driveway. Command requested OSHA be notified due to this being a workplace injury. Boston MedFlight reported a 45-minute ETA, and was refused by command due to the extended ETA. Ambulance-247 transported the victim with multi-systems trauma to the South Shore Hospital with 4-paramedics on-board.

Another person who was involved with the accident requested to be evaluated by EMS and Abington Ambulance-4 responded mutual aid to the scene. That patient was evaluated on-scene by paramedics and refused transport. The cause of the pedestrian accident is under investigation by the Whitman Police Department with the assistance of the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department BCI unit. All of the vehicles involved in the crash remained on-scene and cooperated with the investigation.
