January 19, 2026 — Margate City Fire Department issued a public safety reminder encouraging residents to take preventative measures to protect their homes from frozen and burst pipes as winter temperatures remain low. The department emphasized simple but effective steps such as sealing cracks around doors and windows, maintaining indoor heat above recommended levels, opening cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around plumbing, and allowing faucets to drip during extreme cold. Residents were also advised to know the location of their water shutoff valves and to properly drain and store outdoor hoses. Fire officials noted that frozen pipes can lead to significant property damage and emergency responses, making early preparation essential for community safety.
