January 22, 2026 — As winter weather continues to impact the area, the Hammonton Fire Department is reminding residents of the importance of keeping fire hydrants clear and accessible. Officials emphasized that while snowy conditions can be enjoyable, buried hydrants can significantly delay emergency response during a fire. Residents with hydrants near their homes are asked to shovel a minimum three-foot perimeter around each hydrant and clear a path from the hydrant to the street. Fire officials noted that seconds matter during an emergency, and quick access to a reliable water supply can make a critical difference in protecting lives and property, urging the community to help keep neighborhoods safe.
