Clayton, NJ — 24th January — The condition of Clayton's fire department siren has been questioned. Officials verified that the siren, which has been in use for over 40 years, is presently not working because repairs are required. Inspections revealed electrical and mechanical damage that was consistent with the age and prolonged use of the siren. The siren was taken out of operation while repairs were being made in order to stop more damage. In the past, the siren was used to warn members and inform the community, especially before to the widespread use of radio and current paging systems. The siren should be operational again in the upcoming months, according to the Clayton Fire Company, which is based at 107 W. High Street. During this time, conventional systems continue to be used for dispatch and member alerts.
