GA Resident Strikes Deer

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On January 21, 2024 at 10:36pm, Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries near the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Lewis Lane. Personnel responded an Engine and Rescue to this incident with automatic aid provided by the City of Gretna Fire Department.

Upon arrival personnel found a 2009 Lincoln MKS with a single occupant and heavy front end damage. Firefighters established command and continued to assess the scene to find that the steering wheel airbag had deployed and there were no hazards. Upon meeting with the occupant it was determined that while traveling the vehicle struck a deer that crossed in front of the vehicle and then veered into the ditch. The occupant had injuries to her hand, lip and was complaining of a headache. The Incident Commander determined that this was a can handle for fire personnel on scene and cancelled the City of Gretna Fire Department.

Personnel from the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office and the Mount Pleasant Fire Department did find the deer which was deceased. Gadsden County EMS arrived continued to assess the occupant and transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Personnel remained on scene until cleared by the Florida Highway Patrol.
