Island Heights, NJ — January 14 — The building emergency siren of the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Co. 1, located at 15 Lake Avenue, has been temporarily rendered inoperable due to a recent mechanical malfunction. To make room for examination and repairs, the siren was taken down from its pole. Dillon's Creek Marina helped by providing a crane to securely lower the unit.

The department stated that the siren is still a crucial backup, even though contemporary alerting devices like pagers and mobile alerts are currently the principal means of member notification. In addition to alerting members who might not be close to their devices, it lets the public know that emergency vehicles might be arriving. The siren is anticipated to be operational again shortly once repairs are completed.
