On January 5, 2026, at 7:33 a.m., the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to West Kennedy Drive in Egg Harbor Township for a residential fire alarm activation. The alarm provider stated that a heat detector and a smoke alarm in the hallway had been activated.

Patrol officers from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department arrived and discovered light smoke coming from an unoccupied property. Cardiff Rescue 1517 responded, and Assistant Chief Craig Thompson arrived, assumed command, and declared a working fire. Additional assistance was requested from the Scullville Volunteer Fire Company, the Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department, and the Northfield City Fire Department. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke from an attached garage, made entry, extinguished the fire, checked for extension, and ventilated the residence. The incident was investigated by the Egg Harbor Township Fire Investigator. There were no injuries recorded. The Egg Harbor Township Rescue Squad and police officers gave assistance on the spot. The damage was limited to the garage, illustrating the benefit of early detection by a monitored fire alarm system.
