Chimney Fire Contained Quickly in Weymouth Township

On January 15, the Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company responded to a reported dwelling fire in the Dorothy section of Weymouth Township. Station 12-7 was dispatched at 8:13 p.m. under Call #26-006. Engine 12-72 arrived on the site and discovered an active chimney fire. Firefighters launched an investigation and found that the fire was contained within the chimney system. Crews disassembled the stovepipe and removed the chimney cap to expose the fire. A chimney chain was then deployed to remove creosote buildup from the flue.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes, with no additional damage reported to the home. A total of 10 members responded with three engines and an ambulance. Stations 12-4 and 12-5 assisted on scene. The incident was handled safely and efficiently, with units returning to service following overhaul and cleanup.
