January 17th marked the 20th anniversary of the Special Olympics of New Jersey Wildwood Polar Plunge, an annual event that continues to draw strong community support. Personnel from the Cape May County Dive Team and off-duty members of the City of Wildwood Fire Department offered their time to help guarantee everyone's safety during the event. More than 1,000 people participated in the dive this year, according to the organizers, and more than $300,000 was raised to benefit Special Olympics programs around New Jersey. During the event, firefighters and members of the dive team oversaw safety both in the water and along the coastline.
