Vehicle Leaves Interstate 89, Comes to Rest Upside Down in Stream Near Colchester

December 1, 2025 — At approximately 3:00 p.m., the Colchester Fire Department and Colchester Rescue Squad responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on Interstate 89 northbound near mile marker 91. Initial reports indicated a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree, with the extent of injuries unknown. Upon arrival, crews located a single vehicle overturned down a steep embankment on the right-hand side of the interstate, partially submerged in a stream. The vehicle’s sole occupant had self-extricated prior to the arrival of first responders, was evaluated on scene, and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center by Colchester Rescue for further evaluation. Fire Department personnel remained on scene for an extended period, assisting the towing company with safely accessing and removing the vehicle from the difficult terrain. No additional injuries were reported.
