Elizabeth and mutual aid firefighters were able to get a better view of the five-alarm industrial fire on January 5th, thanks to the Elizabeth Police Department’s U.A.S. (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Drone Unit. The unit provided both real time and thermal images from all areas of the blaze. This was especially helpful due to parts of the complex being inaccessible from the ground. The images were transmitted to a van at the command post and was viewable on a large screen monitor. The unit remained on the scene most of the day helping the Incident Commander see sections of the buildings that were completely out of sight and the units that were working there.
