January 12, 2026 —  Over the weekend, Dugan's Country Grill hosted the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department's annual winter dinner, which brought together 75 active, social, and life members for an afternoon of celebration and camaraderie. A total of 220 years of service were recognised by seven members: Roger Conner for 60 years, Mike Shurtleff for 40 years, John and Mark Conner for 35 years, Joe Doeing for 20 years, and Brandon White and Riley Shurtleff for 15 years. Lorin Correll was named the 2025 top responder. Mike Shurtleff received the Chief's Award, Charlie Nesbit received the President's Award, and Mark Conner received the Firefighter of the Year award. The department also thanked the GFD Ladies’ Auxiliary for continued support and the King Ferry Fire Department for district coverage. Officials urged new members to think about volunteering and emphasised the value of family tradition in the fire department.
