January 11, 2026 – Newport, RI — Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department responded during the early morning hours after Ladder 1 was dispatched at 3:01 a.m. on mutual aid to the Newport for station coverage. While en route, Ladder 1 was reassigned to a reported building fire on Second Street. Upon arrival, Jamestown firefighters assisted Newport crews and other responding departments with fire suppression, ventilation, and overhaul operations. Due to the scope of the incident, the fire was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional mutual aid from Jamestown, Middletown, Portsmouth, North Kingstown, and other surrounding communities.
Crews operated on scene for approximately five hours before being released and returning to service. Fire officials praised the coordinated efforts of all departments involved in bringing the fire under control.
