January 2, 2026— Gorham Fire Department responded to a third-alarm structure fire at 236 Sebago Lake Road early Friday morning after Cumberland County Regional Communications received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire in a single-family home at approximately 1:16 a.m. Fire crews from Gorham, along with mutual aid departments from Windham Fire Department and Standish Fire Department, were dispatched moments later.
The first unit arrived to find heavy fire conditions in an approximately 1,800-square-foot, wood-frame residence. Fire officials reported that an interior fire had spread through the structure, extending through walls and ceilings into the second floor and attic. Due to the volume of fire and structural involvement, second and third alarms were requested, bringing additional resources from Westbrook, Scarborough, Raymond, Buxton, Hollis, Falmouth, and Cumberland. Gorham Police, Gorham Public Works, Central Maine Power, and the Portland Water District also assisted on scene. All occupants safely escaped the home, though four firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated and released. The home was declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Maine Fire Marshal’s Office but is not believed to be suspicious. Fire officials noted there were no working smoke detectors in the home and urged residents to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed and functioning, emphasizing their importance in early fire detection and life safety.
