On December 25, 2025, just before nine in the morning, a reported car collision on Goose Hollow Road in Thornton prompted the Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue and the Thornton Police Department to attend. Initially, Rescue 1, Car 1, and Ambulance 1 were sent out. A caller to New Hampshire 911 reported a car off the road with several patients and potential entrapment, according to Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid dispatchers. This information led to the request for CTFD Ambulance 2 and an additional ambulance from the Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety.

When the crews arrived, they found one car partially buried in knee-deep, chilly water in a creek. Two people were still inside the car, one of whom reported being hurt, while the other two had already exited. Before securely extracting the remaining occupants, firefighters used chains and a strut system to stabilise the vehicle. CTFD Ambulance 1 took one patient with non-life-threatening injuries to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. With help from the Thornton Highway Department and the Campton Police Department, additional staff stayed on the scene to remove the vehicles. Chief Daniel Defosses commended the reaction, highlighting the commitment of responders who left their families on Christmas morning to help others and cautioning drivers to drive carefully on back roads blanketed in snow.
