January 1, 2026 — Members of Lake Mishnock Fire/Rescue gathered at Scarborough Beach on New Year’s Day to take part in a Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Rhode Island. Firefighters and supporters braved the frigid Atlantic waters in support of the organization, raising awareness and funds for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The department described the event as a show of “cold water, big hearts, and an even bigger cause,” highlighting the commitment of its members to community service both on and off the emergency scene.
