On December 28, the Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was called to an automatic fire alarm just before six in the morning. The house was on fire, according to a report from a bystander and a callback from the alarm provider. The reaction was upgraded to a structure fire right away. When Newtown Hook & Ladder's Truck 114 arrived, the first officer to arrive confirmed that the fire was operational. Low temperatures, ice surfaces and live power lines falling close to the building were among the difficult circumstances that firefighters had to deal with. On-site assistance was provided by teams from Botsford Fire Rescue, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company #1, and Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue. EMS assistance was given by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
