PASSAIC, NJ — January 10 — For the second time this week, Passaic firefighters battled a third-alarm fire within a two-day span, once again doing an outstanding job under challenging conditions.

The fire was first reported by Truck Company 1 shortly after 1:00 p.m. while returning from a follow-up check related to the previous fire. Crew members spotted smoke from a block away and observed residents waving them down. Truck 1 immediately notified dispatch, requesting an alarm for a working fire at 46 Quincy St.

The building at 46 Quincy St. is a three-story, mixed-use residential-over-commercial, multi-family structure. The fire was located on the top floor and had already extended into the cockloft upon arrival.

Residents were evacuating as Truck 1 arrived on scene, and all occupants were able to exit the building safely. A total of 17 residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

Two firefighters were transported to the hospital—one with a back injury and another with a shoulder injury. The fire was brought under control within approximately one hour.

The incident is being investigated by the Passaic Fire Investigation Team. Mutual aid departments from Passaic County and Bergen County responded to the scene and assisted by covering Passaic firehouses. The Passaic County Canteen Unit was also on scene to provide refreshments for firefighters.

Once again, excellent work was performed by Passaic firefighters and all mutual aid departments involved.
