On December 27, 2020, The City of Troy's Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at the intersection of Congress Street and 11th Street. The dispatcher notified police they were receiving multiple calls on the vehicle fire and getting a report it was endangering a structure.

Police officers quickly arrived on scene and had a well involved vehicle fire. Officers deployed a fire extinguisher and attempted to knock down the fire in the front of the vehicle. The rescue squad arrived on scene and had a well involved engine compartment fire and the vehicle was not endangering any structure. Firefighters deployed a single hand line and began to knock down the fire in the engine compartment and in the front of the vehicle. Firefighters use a rotary saw to cut off the hood of the vehicle to access the engine compartment to finish hitting hotspots.

The elderly driver of the vehicle exited the vehicle safely. The vehicle was a total loss. The elderly driver thanked the firefighters for putting out her vehicle that caught fire. Police officers offered a ride home to the driver of the vehicle to make sure she got home safely. The fire is possibly due to a mechanical error in the vehicle. The fire is currently under investigation.
