Winter Storm Watch Update Issued for Nanticoke and Surrounding Region
December 24, 2025 – Nanticoke City Fire Department, in coordination with the City of Nanticoke and Nanticoke Firefighters IAFF Local 2655, shared an updated Winter Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service Binghamton. The updated advisory was released at 9:02 p.m. on December 24 and remains in effect until 10:00 a.m. on December 27 for Luzerne, Wyoming, and Bradford counties in Pennsylvania, along with Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties in New York. Forecasters indicate that heavy mixed precipitation is possible, with snow accumulations between four and eight inches and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch. Snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon, with sleet and freezing rain potentially mixing in by evening, and the heaviest precipitation anticipated from mid-afternoon through Friday evening before tapering off early Saturday. Officials warn that travel could be very difficult, particularly during the Friday evening commute, and residents are urged to monitor the latest forecasts and prepare for hazardous winter conditions.
