In January, Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh and senior Fire Department Officials, along with Moon’s family and fellow firefighters, dedicated a plaque at the Quarters of Rescue 2 to honor his memory. Firefighter Moon, 47, was a 21-year veteran of the department. Firefighter Moon suffered a serious head injury during a training accident at his firehouse. When it became clear he would not survive his critical injuries, his family made the decision to donate his organs to save the lives of others. Firefighter Moon’s donation saved the lives of five people, including two retired FDNY firefighters. Moon’s wife, Kristina, has become an advocate for organ donation, and the FDNY joins her in sharing the importance of this lifesaving decision and its far-reaching impact.
