After decades of service, Chief Jason Davis announced his retirement from Wilkins Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, signaling a change in leadership. Although Davis's relationship with the firm started much earlier, he formally joined the department in the 1990s. He frequently went to the station with his father, Wayne, when he was younger, and spending time in the garage helped him develop a lifetime bond with the fire department. Davis advanced quickly through the ranks at Company No. 1 before relocating to Renton in the early 2000s. There, he served as chief at Station 234, gaining extensive experience, certifications, and leadership training.
Davis moved back to Wilkins Township full-time in the 2010s, taking over the position of chief at 835 Railroad Street. He mentored younger members while leading the department through major changes, including the switch to a twin-engine and heavy rescue service, a complete station renovation, and the design of a new engine. At the December meeting, Davis informed the membership he would step down as chief and transition to a support role. Effective January 1, Deputy Chief Ryan Flaherty will advance to Chief, designated as 302CHF.
