Wilkins Township, Pennsylvania — December 17 —Members of Wilkins Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 commemorated a veteran member who was deeply connected to the department's Santa Detail tradition as they took a moment to reflect on the Christmas season. The agency declared earlier this month that it would not be able to carry on with its yearly Santa Detail. Before the cancellation was announced, community members volunteered to help with Wilkins Light Up Night and gave their support. Members took a moment to recognize Wayne's absence while the ceremony proceeded. Wayne had served as the fire company's Santa for many years. Every Christmas season, Wayne was remembered by the department as someone who was dependable, kind, and known to the station. Many saw his interactions with kids, tales he told members, and presence at the firehouse as the real beginning of Christmas.

The department stated that his impact is still felt throughout the season at the Wilkins Township firehouse and that his legacy lives on in the memories and customs he helped establish.
