Mocanaqua Firefighters Assist at Third-Alarm House Fire in Nescopeck Borough

January 1, 2026 – Shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 was dispatched to a third-alarm structure fire in Nescopeck Borough. Engine 1 responded with a crew of six firefighters, who upon arrival were assigned as the first-due Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). Crews stood by to ensure firefighter safety while multiple companies worked to contain heavy fire conditions that had extended through the structure. Thick smoke and flames were visible from the upper floors and roof area as operations continued in challenging winter conditions. The incident drew a large multi-agency response, with firefighters working for several hours to bring the fire under control.
