Adamstown, Pa. — December 8 — As part of the original alarm assignment for a reported structure fire in the 4000 block of New Holland Road, the Adamstown Fire Company arrived just before 10 p.m. on Monday.

When Assist 72 got on the site, they saw a two-story mixed-occupancy commercial structure with a strong fire coming from the roof. Engine 11 was assigned to the assignment when a working fire was confirmed. Crews were divided between the roof and the inside by Ladder 11, which was situated on the Bravo side. The fire began on the roof's Alpha-Delta corner and quickly spread to the Bravo and Charlie sides.

While internal personnel investigated the building and evaluated circumstances, Ladder 11 firefighters worked on the roof to ventilate and stop the spread of the fire. Later, Engine 11 deployed many handlines and was moved to help with roof operations. In order to prevent future expansion, crews collaborated with Berks Ladder 18 to finish a trench cut and open more roof sections. Around three in the morning on Tuesday, units left the area.
