Brea, CA - A fire at a commercial-manufacturing building in Brea prompted some evacuations early Thursday, January 2nd, after there were concerns about hazardous materials spreading.
Just before 3 a.m. firefighters from Brea, Fullerton, Anaheim, Orange County Fire Authority and Huntington Beach responded to a fire at 630 E. Lambert Road, which houses Bristol Industries, an aerospace firm.
When they arrived they found smoke showing from the roof and discovered that the situation involved chemicals and called out hazardous-materials teams. They extinguished the fire, which did not cause any injuries. Ten employees inside the plant at the time evacuated safely and were evaluated for exposure.
Some homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. The Brea Community Center was opened as a gathering place for residents waiting to return home. Evacuation orders were lifted at about 7 a.m.
The chemical was later determined to be an alkaline-based material.
